Mobi Kids provides comprehensive assessment and intervention of feeding disorders, speech and language delays, and dysfluency (stuttering).

Communication

Communication covers a vast number of skills in many areas. We diagnose and treat kids with complex communication needs, neurodiversity and neurological conditions.

Our experienced Speech Pathologists provide differential diagnosis and treatment in the following areas:

  • Speech – including articulation, phonology and childhood apraxia of speech (CAS)
  • Language delay and impairment including social skills and literacy
  • Fluency impairment-stuttering
  • Voice impairment

We also use assistive technology to support alternative and augmentative communication.

Mobi Kids Speech Pathologists specialise in treating Speech Sound Disorders, such as articulation and phonological impairments, and childhood apraxia of speech. We conduct detailed assessments to diagnose and manage difficulties in producing sounds, organising sounds in the brain, and coordinating muscle movements for speech.

What might indicate a speech sound disorder?

  • My child’s speech is difficult for me or others to understand.
  • My child has unclear or ‘slushy’ speech.
  • My child puts their sounds in the wrong place.
  • My child takes so much effort to make sounds and makes a lot of mistakes.

Language refers to understanding the meaning of words and putting those words together to make meaningful sentences.

What might indicate a language impairment or delay?

  • My child is unable to understand or follow my instructions
  • My child only uses a few words compared to their peers
  • My child gets frustrated and throws tantrums because they can’t tell me what they want
  • My child is not putting 2-words together
  • My child mimics phrases from people or movies, in other situations (also known as Echolalia/ Gestault Language Learner)

Stuttering refers to blocks, prolongations or repetitions of a sound, syllable, or word(s). Stuttering can happen anywhere in a word or sentence. Some children who stutter in early childhood need therapy, while some stutters may resolves by itself.

There is currently no research to say which is which! That’s why it’s best to see a Speech Pathologist to seek assessment and advice as soon as you notice any difficulties.

At Mobi Kids, we use therapies with the best evidence to build stutter-free speech in your child.

Assistive Technology to support Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC)

At Mobi Kids, our Speech Pathologists can help assess your child to see if technology can replace or support communication. Once technology options are identified we can support you through the trial, decision making and funding request applications.

AAC might include:

  • Key Word Sign (KWS)
  • Picture symbols to help understanding or expression
  • PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System)
  • Voice recordable systems
  • Hi-tech communication devices
  • Switches or switch controlled systems
  • Eye-gaze systems

Our Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists work closely together to match the right equipment to your child’s needs, including access methods, mounting options and environmental control.
